Heaps This one hits right in the soul. A truly beautiful and incredible piece of work by Joachim Badenhorst & Co(smos). Favorite track: A tear fell from the forlorn sky.

Ebbe Scovdahl I listened to this album blind and lost time. Maybe it was the beat, maybe it was the story, or maybe it was because I’d just smoked a massive banger, but the second it stopped I popped it on again and hit the couch. The second it finished for the second time, I ordered the vinyl to get the mp3s so that I could listen again without the breaking heart symbol guilt, I rolled and smoked another banger, hit play again and hit the couch. Fuck you life, I’ve got Cosmos!

Kyoko Kitamura This music so beautiful, so vulnerable, so moving, it vibrates the soul and brings tears to my eyes. It gave me hope for the future, to know that musicians can come together to produce a work this gorgeous during the pandemic.

zanberrycello Been a big fan of Carate Urio Orchestra since I saw them in Ann Arbor Michigan in 2014! Love the journey of this record and it doesn’t disappoint with a deep exploration of diverse sound worlds and textures of electroacoustic blending throughout, all adding to the space adventure. Highly recommend :)

about

Cosmos, the newest album by Joachim Badenhorst’s Carate Urio Orchestra, is a voyage into the deepest regions of the sonic universe, where we find sounds both hauntingly familiar and utterly strange. It tells the story of the last living swamp to have survived the dying of earth, preserved on a little biosphere floating in space. Under this lonely dome live 13 species of moss, 12 of ferns, 3 frogs (all the same species) and one man, named Doug. With his remaining days of human life, Doug learns the frog language and transcribes the Holy Book of Frogdom, scrawling it into the glass walls of the biosphere. This tale is told through through the musical imagination of 7 present-day earth humans:

Liz Kosack (synthesizer)
Simon Jermyn (electric bass, electric guitar)
Brice Soniano (double bass, electronics)
Bert Cools (electric guitars)
Sean Carpio (drums)
Jeremy Thal (French horn, trumpet, narration)
Joachim Badenhorst (clarinet, tenor saxophone, electronics, voice).
